The Maya High Flyers left it all out on the court last Saturday after a three-week break between games, yet still bowed out to the BanKo Perlas Spikers, 25-19, 26-28, 25-23, 25-23, in the opening match of their best-of-three semifinal series in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Maya almost extended the game to a fifth set, tying the fourth frame at 23, if not for a couple of stops from Banko’s Joy Dacoron and Thai reinforcement Jutarat Montripila, who matched rival foreign guest player Tess Rountree’s 31-point output.
Gretchel Soltones continued her hot streak with 16 markers, while Shelby Sullivan managed eight.
The High Flyers had multiple chances to exact revenge on their first round tormentors, whose import duo of Montripila and Kia Bright (23 pts tonight) replicated their performances in Maya’s only other preliminary loss.
This was the Perlas Spikers’ eight-straight win.
Maya, which was upset like fellow higher-seeded team Creamline, will be raring to overcome its 0-1 deficit against BanKo during their next match on July 4, 2018.
Cheer for our High Flyers by watching Game 2 versus BanKo Perlas live at the FilOil Flying V Centre or online via the ABS-CBN Sports & Action livestream at 1:45 PM tomorrow! #FlyHighMaya
