The Maya High Flyers experienced déjà vu in Game 1 of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Finals, looking to put up a fight against the Creamline Cool Smashers, before ending Finals Game 1 at 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19.
The High Flyers once again fell to the Cool Smashers in the fourth frame, suffering the same fate in their first meeting during the preliminary round. The No. 2 team threatened to steal the opening match from the top seed in the second set, only to run out of gas the rest of the way.
Maya import Tess Rountree’s streak of 30+ points ended (26), while Grethcel “Lady Beast” Soltones was the only other High Flyer to score in double figures with 11. Alyssa Valdez (18 pts) complemented Thai reinforcement Kuttika Kaewpin’s team-high 19.
Maya fans shouldn’t be worried, though. The High Flyers also lost to the BanKo Perlas Spikers in the semis opener, but still won the next two to advance to the PVL Finals.
Here’s hoping the High Flyers turn things around next match and force a Game 3!
