Maya proved that their impressive debut was no fluke, as they swept no less than reigning titleholders Pocari Sweat-Air Force Lady Warriors, 25-20, 25-19, 25-22, at the People’s Gym in Tuguegarao yesterday.
Led by American reinforcement Tess Rountree, who putGroup of ladies playing volleyball in front of many people up 18 points, 16 attacks, and two blocks, the High Flyers grabbed solo lead in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Reinforced Conference.
The Player of the Game got enough help, though, as FEU standout Jerrili Malabanan had nine markers, while Jasmine Nabor had 20 excellent sets.
More importantly, it was a heroic homecoming for Celine Domingo, after she scored the last two of her three points to seal the deal for then-unbeaten PayMaya.
Coach Roger Gorayeb, who had the chance to tinker with lineups, praised his team’s body language. He told ABS-CBN Sports, “Kumpara doon sa first game namin, mas kaunti yung mistakes, yung errors. Yung imports naman very determined lang talaga kasi alam din nila na they could play better than last time tapos defending champions nga yung kalaban namin.”
The High Flyers (2-0) continued to soar in the PVL’s fourth conference, pouncing on the errors of Pocari Sweat-Air Force and translating those into 32 markers. On the other hand, PayMaya improved in the turnover department, committing only 21 against 23 versus Tacloban during the opener.
The team is set to battle early favorites Creamline (1-1) today in their final match in Tuguegarao. #FlyHighPayMaya
