The Maya High Flyers gave the star-studded Creamline Cool Smashers everything the latter could handle, before losing for the first time in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Reinforced Conference, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19, at the People’s Gym in Tuguegarao Sunday.
The victory propelled Creamline to a 2-1 win-loss record, tying Maya for the lead in the standings. Thai Kuttika Kaewpin (Player of the Game: 17 points, 15 attacks, 2 serves) and Alyssa Valdez (12 markers) proved too much for the streaking High Flyers, who were led by Tess Rountree’s 17.
The American reinforcement was the only Maya player to reach double figures, with Aiko Urdas and Jasmine Nabor putting up eight and six points, respectively. The High Flyers actually threatened to make things interesting a couple of times (a close Set 2, followed by 20-17 at one point during the third) but saw their comeback effort fall short.
Expect Maya, especially its other import Shelby Sullivan (5 hits), to regroup after a humbling defeat and bounce back mightily in the next matches. #FlyHighMaya
