American singer-songwriter John Legend is best known for his moving ballads and LSS-worthy upbeat hits. His discography is a touching journey through the different stages of his life, and his voice is infectious and evokes powerful emotions.
He’s made waves not only in Billboard charts but also in Hollywood. Several movie directors have on several occasions commissioned the songwriter’s work for big feature films.
Before you see John Legend’s Darkness and Light tour in Manila, let’s take a look at some of his past work for the big screen!

Legend and Grande’s rendition of this classic Disney song, which was originally sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, was enough to ignite a love for the movie in a whole new generation of fans.
The music video is a touching tribute to the iconic ballroom dance scene, of course now featuring the talented Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.
Glory (Common feat. John Legend)

Common’s militant and perseverant rap verses glide in and out of Legend’s soaring vocal performance in this tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream—for African Americans to be allowed to vote in the United States.
Appropriately, Legend’s chorus dreams for the day “the war is won,” when the glory finally comes for his people.
Start a Fire

As an R&B songwriter and pianist, Legend is one of the few modern pop artists whose work fits in perfectly with the jazz and swing music of La La Land.
In the movie, he plays a prominent musician and producer spearheading the use of synth instruments in jazz, to the chagrin of Ryan Gosling’s lead character.
This song is the highlight of Legend’s work in the movie, and while it’s meant to illustrate a downturn in Gosling’s character arc, we can’t help but find it so catchy.
One Woman Man

Adapting his soulful charm to the trappings of the Fifty Shades series, John Legend’s track is probably the most smitten and romantic on this sequel’s soundtrack.
The song itself was penned by Toby Gad and John Stephens, the former being the writer of Legend’s arguably most famous song to date—All of Me.
