It’s PayMaya vs Creamline in PVL Finals
The PayMaya High Flyers saved their best for last, as they pulled off a staggering comeback against the BanKo Perlas Spikers, 22-25, 14-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-12, at FilOil Flying V Centre, to swoop in the Finals’ Winners Battle of the 2018 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference.
The High Flyers’ shook off a poor start, which saw them put up just 15 points in the second set, before winning the last three frames. BanKo almost dashed PayMaya’s championship hopes in the fourth, going up 23-22, if not for three-straight points from Coach Roger Gorayeb’s wards.
Gorayeb told ABS-CBN Sports, “Sinasabi ko naman lagi sa kanila yung confidence nila itaas lang nila lagi, wag silang mawawalan ng loob. Kasi sabi ko nga, even if we lose this game, if we played 100 percent, everybody can walk out of that court saying that we played 100 percent, even if we lose, sabi ko, OK tayo sa ganyan maganda para sa atin.”
American reinforcement Tess Rountree did everything she could (35 markers, 8 in 5th) to hold off opposing import Kia Bright’s tournament-best 41. Jasmine Nabor once again came up big with 41 excellent sets, while Grethcel Soltones scored 16 (on 19 excellent receptions and 16 digs), capped off with a game-winning kill.
With the triumph, PayMaya exorcised the demons of the preliminary round, where the Perlas Spikers dealt the former one of its two losses. The other was at the hands of the Creamline Cool Smashers, which the High Flyers will face in the best-of-three title series, which starts on Sunday, July 8. #FlyHigh, Paymaya!
