PayMaya and MPTC team up to provide digital payment convenience to Filipinos
MANILA, Philippines, February 20, 2017 – PayMaya Philippines, the country’s leading digital financial services provider, and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the largest toll road operator in the country, have collaborated to enable the acceptance of contactless card payments in North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), providing digital payment convenience to motorists and consumers.
Motorists traversing NLEX can now pay their tollway fees by tapping their Beep, and Mastercard contactless debit, prepaid and credit cards including their Smart Mastercard powered by PayMaya. Acceptance for CAVITEX will commence soon. Consumers will also be able to pay at MPTC tollroads with their Visa contactless debit, prepaid and credit cards this year.
PayMaya Business, which delivers solutions that enable businesses of all sizes to accept payments, powers the end-to-end acceptance of contactless card payments at NLEX and CAVITEX. This is the first-of-its-kind payment acceptance initiative for tollways in the country.
This move will further strengthen the electronic toll collections of MPTC expressways, enabling faster and more convenient cashless transactions for consumers. This step also ushers the interoperability in MPTC toll roads where motorists and vehicle owners can use just one prepaid payment card to pass through NLEX and CAVITEX.
“At PayMaya, we strive to create a long-lasting impact in emerging markets through digital financial services. We hope that this collaboration with MPTC will further enhance the customer experience of motorists and consumers who rely on NLEX and CAVITEX for their day-to-day travel,” said Orlando Vea, President and CEO of Voyager Innovations and PayMaya.
“We continue to be ahead of the demands of our motorists in terms of providing an excellent customer service in line with the digital age. Partnering with PayMaya and making its technology accessible in both NLEX and CAVITEX enable interoperability between both toll roads, matching the expectations of road users when it comes to convenience, efficiency, and time savings,” said Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation President and CEO Rodrigo Franco.
The partnership launch was witnessed by Manny V. Pangilinan, Chairman of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC). MPTC is a subsidiary of MPIC.
“The collaboration between MPTC and PayMaya moves us towards the ultimate goal–to serve Filipinos by delivering to them high quality infrastructure–both physical and digital. Powered by PLDT and Smart’s network, we are seeing more of how digital financial services can further boost and propel our economy, ” said Pangilinan.
