Malolos City gears up for cashless payments with PayMaya
Empowering businesses in the city with world-class payment options
Residents of Malolos can now use their PayMaya accounts in more establishments as PayMaya continues on-boarding more businesses to better serve Malolos’ citizens months after the country’s pioneer and leader in digital financial services powered the local government units’ Citizen ID Card.
Aside from allowing citizens of Malolos to receive cash allowances and other monetary benefits from the local government of Malolos and pay for fees and transactions with the LGU, residents can use their PayMaya cards in physical establishments such as in Robinsons Place Malolos and Robinsons Supermarket. They can likewise use their PayMaya app to make QR payments in the newly-opened Kartell Food Park, which is now a PayMaya Spot, as well as in over 20 Smart Padala partner agents all over the city.
Launched during the Fiesta Republica celebrations, which culminated last December 23, PayMaya also held a cashless gift-giving event to more than 2,000 citizens of Malolos at Robinsons Place Malolos. PayMaya account holders who are beneficiaries of the local government received gift packs by getting to try their PayMaya QR on their phone.
“Allowing citizens of Malolos to use their Malolos Citizen ID card in more establishments in the city is part of our big goal to make Malolos a digital city. We want to enable our citizens to have access to the digital economy and experience cashless payments with ease and security using their Citizen ID card, which is powered by PayMaya,” said Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad.
Malolos has more than 100,000 citizens who will enjoy the benefits of owning a PayMaya account within the year.
For his part, Paolo Azzola, PayMaya Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director, said: “With more establishments on-board, Malolos residents will now enjoy secure and convenient cashless payments in more establishments in the city. Businesses in Malolos adopting payments via PayMaya QR, on the other hand, are giving consumers more payment options and providing them with better customer experience,” Azzola added.
Other local government units using PayMaya include Balanga City, Muntinlupa City, Catbalogan City, and Tacloban City. It is also being used as an all-in-one ID cards by schools and as disbursement cards by enterprises.
Aside from functioning as an ID and payments card, the PayMaya-enabled citizen ID card can also be used for ATM withdrawals. It can also be accepted for payments anywhere in the world – both for online and physical stores – where Visa is honored.
