Boracay goes ‘cashless’ with launch of PayMaya Spots for QR payments
The first of many PayMaya Spots finds home in Hue Hotels and Resorts Boracay and Station X
Boracay is world-renowned for its white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a night life that no one can rival. Soon, the island which draws millions of tourists each year will be known for one more thing: the availability of innovative cashless payments using mobile phones with the help of PayMaya.
This development draws its origins at a newly launched retail, food, and hotel complex right between Station 2 and 3, within the premises of Hue Hotels and Resorts Boracay. Adjacent to the world-class hotel is Station X, a retail complex that pools together a unique set of food and retail concepts never before seen on the island.
Inside, Boracay’s pioneering food park called Street Market, including other establishments at Station X, are now accepting payments using PayMaya’s revolutionary QR-based payment system which allows customers to pay by pointing their phone camera and clicking.
“We are strong advocates of entrepreneurship, unique concepts and innovation. This is why we are very excited about PayMaya’s integration with the vision to further enhance customer experience and convenience especially here in Boracay. We are proud to be part of the cashless movement and especially proud to be partnering with PayMaya for this,” said Dexter Lee and Dennis Lee, Managing Directors at Hue Hotels and Resorts Boracay.
“Station X and Hue are perfect matches for PayMaya in Boracay, as part of our initiative to accelerate cashless ecosystems nationwide via PayMaya Spots. They bring a fresh take on the food and hotel scene on the island. A superior customer experience includes providing a new and exciting way to pay, with PayMaya QR,” explained Paolo Azzola, COO and Managing Director at PayMaya Philippines.
PayMaya QR: the future of payments available today
Using PayMaya QR is very simple. All you have to do is download the PayMaya app on your iOS or Android phone, register for an account using any Philippine-based mobile number, and load up your account at any of the more than 15,000 touchpoints available for account holders. You can also register to have a PayMaya account via PayMaya in Messenger (@PayMayaOfficial).
Once you have funds available in your account, you simply have to tap “Scan” in the app and point the camera at the QR code displayed by the merchant, and you’ll be able to instantly pay for your purchases at the simple tap on your screen.
Paying via QR is perfect for the tech-savvy go-getters and travelers who rely on their mobile phones and use digital technologies to maximize their experiences. And Boracay is definitely teeming with them, especially now that the summer season is right around the corner.
PayMaya is the eWallet from PayMaya Philippines, the digital financial services arm of PLDT and Smart’s Voyager Innovations. It is the preferred prepaid wallet and app of choice for millions of young Filipinos.
Expanding PayMaya Spots across Boracay
Hue Hotels and Resorts Boracay and Station X join a growing list of companies, merchants, and establishments that have chosen to roll out PayMaya QR to provide an easy, convenient, and hassle-free way for customers to pay without having to worry if they have enough cash withdrawn from the ATM.
These PayMaya QR partners include all The SM Store branches nationwide; Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Supermarket, and brands under Robinsons Store Specialists, Inc. (such as Topshop, Topman, G2000, Warehouse, and Dorothy Perkins) in Robinsons Galleria; Fairmont Hotel; The Yard in Timog and Pioneer Street Market in Mandaluyong; as well as select branches of McCafe very soon.
Tourists and locals alike can expect more PayMaya QR enabled merchants in Boracay. “We start with Hue and Station X today, but the goal is to make all of Boracay QR-capable via our ecosystem of PayMaya Spots, the same way we’re rolling it out in other cities and island, as we work toward building a cashless Philippines,” Azzola concluded.
